About this Course

The course is conducted over a 2 day (12h ) period 

 

Who is this course for?

This qualification is designed to provide a learner with the knowledge and practical competence required to deal with a wide range of first aid situations with a focus on sports and activity related conditions.

The qualification is suitable for learners working in outdoor and activity environments or involved in other settings such as voluntary and community activities.

This qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA) regulated by Ofqual.

Course Overview & Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider

  •  Be able to assess an emergency situation safely

  •  Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty

  •  Identify when to administer and administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

  • Know how how to perform CPR to children and victims of drowning

  • Identify when to place a casualty into the recovery position

  • Learn and demonstrate how to place a casualty into the recovery position

  • Identify and learn how to administer first aid to a casualty who is experiencing a seizure

  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking

  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding

  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock

  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries, small cuts, grazes, bruises, small splinters, nosebleeds

  • How to administer first aid to a casualty with minor burns and scalds

  • Be able to conduct a secondary survey

  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints

  • Recognise a suspected: fracture or dislocation, sprain or strain

  • Identify how to administer first aid for a casualty with suspected: fracture or dislocation, sprain or strain

  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries

  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries, how to administer first aid for suspected: fractured ribs, penetrating chest injury

  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with an eye injury

  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with bites and stings

  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis

  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness,:

  • How to administer first aid to a casualty suffering from: heart attack, epileptic seizure asthma attack, diabetic hypoglycaemic emergency

  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty suffering from the effects of heat or cold, 

  • how to administer first aid to a casualty suffering from the following conditions: shivering, hypothermia, dehydrationheat exhaustion, hyperthermia

Assessments

Students will be assessed by the Instructor on the practical part and a multiple choice assessment paper at the end.

 

Qualifications & Renewals 

On successful completion of the course, participants will receive an FAIB accredited certificate in Activity First Aid, Ofqual regulated body and it is valid for 3 years.
