The course is conducted over a 3 day period 

 

Who is this course for?

All higher risk workplaces that have identified a need for comprehensive first aid e.g. construction, engineering and assembly work, food processing, warehousing, extensive work with dangerous machinery or sharp instruments, chemical manufacture.

Course Content & Overview:

  • Action in emergency

  • Primary survey

  • Secondary assessment

  • The respiratory system

  • Resuscitation - CPR and AED usage

  • Disorder of respiratory system

  • Disorder of circulatory system

  • Wounds and bleeding

  • Epilepsy and Seizures and fainting

  • Minor burns and scalds

  • Diabetes

  • Stroke

  • Heart Attack

  • Angine

  • Astma

  • Bleeding

  • Broken bones

  • Chest injuries

  • Shock

  • Sepsis

  • Meningitis

  • Poisoning

  • Head injuries

  • Hypothermia

  • Recovery Position 

Learning outcomes:

​

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider

  • Be able to assess an emergency situation safely

  • Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty - CPR and use of defibrillator

  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking

  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding

  • Know how to provide first aid to casualty who is suffering from shock

  • Know how to provide first aid to casualty with minor injury

  • Be able to conduct a secondary survey

  • Be able to provide first aid to casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints

  • Be able to provide first aid to casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries

  • Be able to provide first aid to casualty with suspected chest injuries

  • Be able to provide first aid to casualty with burns and scalds

  • Administrate first aid to eye injury

  • Administrate first aid to a casualty with suspected poisoning

  • Know how to treat casualty with anaphylaxis 

Assessments

Students will be assessed by the Instructor on the practical part and a multiple choice assessment paper at the end.

 

Qualifications & Renewals 

On successful completion of the course, participants will receive an FAA accredited certificate in  First Aid at Work, Ofqual regulated body and it is valid for 3 years.
