The course is conducted over a 2 day period 

 

Who is this course for?

The Course designed for learners with a responsibility for the care of children and babies on a professional level providing the knowledge and practical competence to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations. This course can be very beneficial to Parents and carers as well as nursery employees.

This qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA) regulated by Ofqual.

Course Overview & Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a paediatric First Aider

  • Be able to assess an emergency situation safely

  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child who are unresponsive and identify when to administer - CPR and use of defibrillator

  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child who are choking

  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child  with external bleeding

  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is suffering from shock

  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with bites, stings and minor injury

  • Be able to conduct a secondary survey

  • Be able to provide first aid to casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints

  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected head and spinal injuries

  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints

  • Be able to provide first aid to casualty with burns and scalds

  • Administrate first aid to an infant or a child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose

  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with an acute medical condition or sudden illness such as: diabetic hypoglycaemic emergency, asthma attack, allergic reaction, meningitis, febrile convulsions

  • Recognise when an infant or a child is suffering from extreme cold or extreme heat and know how to administer first aid

  • Administrate first aid to a an infant or a child with suspected poisoning

  • Know how to treat an infant or a child with anaphylaxis and use of auto-injectors

Assessments

Students will be assessed by the Instructor on the practical part and a multiple choice assessment paper at the end.

 

Qualifications & Renewals 

On successful completion of the course, participants will receive an FAA accredited certificate in Paediatric First Aid at Work, Ofqual regulated body and it is valid for 3 years.
